libro Deseo En El Discurso Postmoderno

In this dissertation I examine the poetry of Cristina Peri Rossi as a distinctive postmodern discourse. Drawing on the work of Jean-François Lyotard, Michel Foucault, Gilles Deleuze and Fredric Jameson regarding Postmodernity and theories about desire developed by philosophers such as Plato, Aristotle, Benedic Spinoza and René Girard, I show how in her poetry, Peri Rossi transgresses linguistic and thematic boundaries to reveal a postmodern discourse that articulates desire, specifically, desire that emerges through the homoerotic experience. My study draws from seven collections of poems, encompassing a broad array of Peri Rossis poetry, and emphasizing the role that the recodification of new paradigms plays in her poetry, both in theme and style. These new paradigms are realized through various literary devices, such as the provocative use of metaphor and allegory. The paradigms establish no fixed boundaries and dispel the validity of any single totalizing discourse, as they often appear as apocalyptic, irrational, open, erotic, transgressive and decadent. Through my analysis of her poetry, I decipher Peri Rossis codified discourse to illustrate the ways in which her texts become allegories of the social, political and literary realms that define her world. The poet is ultimately able to disarticulate the dominant discourse, expressing through her erotic poetry a new discourse, which allows for her reaffirmation of and approximation to the postmodern society in which she lives and writes
